If so, I’d greatly appreciate any feedback you could give me, as I’m considering hiring them.
If you can’t afford to pay IRS, how do you plan in paying a Tax Group.
Seriously just work with IRS yourself and don’t give your money to someone else.
Contact IRS at 1-800-829-0922 or 1-800-829-7650; download Form 9465 (Installment Agreement Request) and Form 433-F (Collection Information Statement) from the IRS website (www.irs.gov) IRS accepts 60 month Installment Agreements. IF you owe over 25K then complete the Form 433-F and provide all the requested information, you can have all information ready when you call and then IRS will ask you to fax the information to them and they will work out a payment amount. IRS charges $105.00 USER FEE(you mail the monthly payment) or $52.00 USER FEE for a direct debit installment agreement.
So instead of paying someone to submit the form 9465 and form 433-F do it yourself and use the money against your debt instead.
All of the tax settlement companies that advertise on TV and/or radio tend to be complete ripoffs. Their fees can run in to the thousands of dollars and they don’t have any better of a record in getting the IRS to accept a settlement than anyone else.
A settlement with the IRS is called a “Offer In Compromise”. Go to IRS.gov and search for it. It is a rather complex process. The “form” for the offer is 44 pages long. If you owe over $10,000 and you feel that you qualify for the offer, contact a CPA or EA in your local area and find one that has experience filing the offer. Regardless of who files it, the IRS says “No” over 80% of the time.
I’m not familiar with that company, but I encourage you to consider dealing with the IRS directly. Unless the issues are complex, there isn’t much that these companies can do that you can’t do–and there’s obviously no fee to do it yourself.
