I filed my taxes in March 15 using TurboTax. I have the entire thing from the e-filing printed out, along with the “Federal Return Accepted!” email, in a file at my house, as well as saved as a PDF on my computer. I also have the canceled check from the IRS cashing my tax due amount.
Imagine my surprise when I tried to check on the status of my tax rebate on the IRS website today, and there was nothing there.
So, I called the IRS, who surprised me again by saying I have NO RETURN ON FILE for 2007, but that they did receive my payment and cashed it (which I know already). Even with all of the forms and everything, as well as confirmation of my federal return being accepted AND checking again today on TurboTax where it confirms my return was accepted.
What do I do now? Now we’re not going to receive our $1200 this week due to some stupid error that isn’t my fault. This is so unfair, and I’m just furious.
I doubt that there was no return on file. In alot of cases people have yet to see any information when they try to check the status of their rebate on the irs website. Also, if you owed taxes you are not eligible for direct deposit of your stimulus payment. It will be sent as a check through the mail according to the schedule for those. Maybe the rep you spoke to was mistaken in the fact that your return is MIA?
Were you checking on your REBATE with the IRS, or on your actual return? The REBATE database only shows info once the stimulus payment has been scheduled. Depending on who you were talking to, there might have been a misunderstanding as to what you were actually asking about.
And you said that you had to pay when you filed, didn’t get a refund. In most cases if you owed, you’ll end up with a paper check in the mail for your stimulus payment. Many software programs didn’t handle entry of direct deposit info if you didn’t have a refund coming (that’s why I’ll get my stimulus money in July).
Contact Turbotax support and start from there. Get your tax return FILED.
Come on, this is “found money”, relax. Get your taxes straightened out and the rebate will come. As you had to pay the IRS, your stimulus rebate would generally be mailed and you wouldn’t have it yet anyway.
Call again. It could be just a mistake. You might have to refile but that’s no big deal. Once your return is processed, they will send you a stimulus check in the amount you qualify for. (Remember, it’s UP TO $1200)
I see nothing unfair about this..nobody is trying to scam you. Furious over not getting “free” money as fast as you thought?? That’s a complete waste of energy.
I assume this is a joint return. Whose SSN did you give when you spoke to the IRS? It’s possible the return was posted under one SSN and the payment under the other.
