I Am Majoring In Business Accounting. Will I, As A Male, Make It As An Accountant Receptionist?

I am majoring in business accounting and currently going to college. I see in my experience that most accountant receptionist (or any clerical positions) many of them are female. Why is that and is there any way I can avoid that?

  1. Not sure what country that you are in but it maybe pretty universal. Clerical positions are usually people without degrees. There is a need for attention to detail and precision. Women do tend to be better at detail work.

  2. There is no such thing as an accounting receptionist…so I can’t precisely answer your question. You are correct that most accounting clerks, bookkeepers, and low-level accountants are women. Most men I know prefer management or operations and so don’t pursue accounting/bookkeeping…yet, most of the upper-level accountants I know are men.
Don’t concern yourself with whether you’re a guy, just do well in school.
