If it is less than 100,000 it can be worked in the local walk in office and you can speak to someone there. You will most likely get clear straightforward information there. I strongly advise against going to a large chain that advises you can settle for pennies on a dollar or wants to take weekly, monthly payments. Advise regarding balances of less than $5000 -$10000 should come directly from IRS because tax firms will charge you more than it is worth to work on your case. Be very careful of what kind of contract you sign with any preparer. I strongly suggest going to a walk in office.
